Waters of the
Ancient World
The waters of the ancient world held many creatures that many of us aren’t aware of. We’ll take a look at them here and also discuss water distribution in prehistoric times.
There are two primary studies that look at the waters of the ancient world. The first is paleohydrology with a main focus on how water was distributed and moved over the planet. It also studies ancient floods, drawing on prehistoric events with hints from modern rock formations. We can also find details of what oceans were like at that time.
Paleoichthyology is the topic that attracts the attention of dinosaur lovers. While there were some reptiles that swam quite well during that time, there were plenty of ancient fish too. We’ve discovered hundreds of fossils that shows us just a fraction of the species that existed back then.
You may not know this, thanks to movies like Jurassic Park, but the Mosasaurus was not actually a dinosaur. Instead, it was an aquatic squamate reptile, a term for many of its kind that existed in the Mesozoic era. We’ll study them and so much more in this section with the articles below!
